i wrote a song… in my mind

strangely, “thoughtful” does not translate to full of thoughts

whoa whoa whoa, four comments?  crazy!!  i’m blowin’ up!  anyways, back to business.

i would consider myself to be a very thoughtful guy.  i like doing things for people if i know they’d appreciate it.  and if i had more money, i’d definitely buy people a lot more things than i do now with a budget of ummm… let’s say: bupkis.  but maybe that’s the charm of it.  because people know i can’t afford to buy them nice things, they appreciate the handmade cards or meals bought or candy delivered.  not that i do that stuff all the time.  i sound like some kind of uhhh… not man.  let’s change that to: car problems checked out or building projects done.  yes, that sounds much better.

on the flip side of this, one of my pet peeves is people who are just inconsiderate.  to me, being considerate is one way of being thoughtful of someone else.  my whole philosphy is: if you can do something for someone else that would help them out or make them have a better day, and if it isn’t too much of an inconvenience to you, why not do it?  to be more specific, one of my biggest pet peeves is when people don’t put things back where they left them.  maybe it’s the ninja in me that makes me want someone to think someone has not been in the room i’ve been in.  i remember when i was younger, whenever i knew i was doing something wrong, i would try to leave the scene of the crime exactly how i entered it to decrease suspicion.  but i mean, when you go to a friend’s house, or it doesn’t even have to be a friend, do you just go around leaving your trash everywhere or re-placing all their property to another part of the house?  and if you do, what are you thinking?!?!  you are totally not welcome at my place.  maybe people don’t realize that for everything you re-place somewhere else, that host has to put it back to where it was before, unless they just really don’t care.  but if you’re ocd like me, it’s really a pain.  i can’t tell you the number of times people come into my room, and granted my room has a lot of cool things in it, pick up something to look at or play with, and then either just put it somewhere else in my room or for some reason take it out of my room and put it some other random place like the kitchen or something.  what’s the deal people?

this goes for restaurants too.  sometimes i go out with a group of people to eat and in order to sit together, we have to rearrange the furniture.  and maybe it is the responsibility of people who work there to clean and make sure the place looks presentable, but why create so much unnecessary work for these people who work so hard already?  is it that hard to put tables back the way they were or to *gasp* throw away your own trash (if at a fast-food restaurant)?

people, all i’m asking is for some consideration.  i hope that’s not too much to ask for.  i feel like a little more consideration and thoughfulness in the world would make it a much much better place.  imagine how such small things can make your day, now imagine if everyone’s day was made by other people doing just small things for them.  it’s like that nationwide commercial i think it is.  where one person does something good and another person sees it and is inspired to do something good to someone else.  it chokes me up every time.  i think it may be the music but it starts off by one person picking up a kid’s toy that fell out of a stroller and returning it and ends with a woman saving a guy’s life from being run over by a bus.  you know the one?  man, i want to live in that world.  with babies getting their toys back and buses not running people over.  what a wonderful world.

  1. I totally agree and feel ya there, but you already know this… miss you dude, and those “possibly related posts” are possibly the most randomest posts that have absolutely nothing to do with yours. =)

  2. I don’t like it when people are inconsiderate with your time (always showing up late). But I’ve learned to deal with it…

  3. Sorry for vandalizing your blog so much today.

I just wanted to share that that Nationwide commercial chokes me up, too! It’s good to know I am not alone, because that thought chokes me up as well.

Also, they are closing our Starbucks. 😦
