don’t be a jerk

i’ve been getting annoyed very easily lately.  it seems like everyone just knows what buttons to push to get on my nerves.  a lot of the things that have been annoying i’ve already written about: being inconsiderate or not putting things back to where they were.  i think it’s one thing to do it unknowingly, but it’s an entirely other thing when you do so willingly or even purposefully.  maybe i just don’t get it, maybe it’s supposed to be humor that comes out as annoyance and i’m just not understanding it.  or maybe people are being jerks and they know they are.

i try not to be a jerk to people.  and if i am joking around sarcastically or making fun of someone, i usually make sure that they know it’s a joke.  i’ll usually pull one of these:

laughing – whenever i make a joke at someone’s expense or make a joke at all and want people to know that, i usually laugh after is say it.  there’s a big difference between, “dude, you’re screwed!  hahaha!!”  and “dude, you’re screwed.”

just kidding! – this is as easy as saying “just kidding!” after something you didn’t mean to be taken seriously.  people tend to get annoyed when you use this too much.  so you want to try to mix it up a little.  maybe throw a “just kidding!” here and then after the next one, you can laugh.

touch – guys usually do this one.  after they make fun of another guy, they’ll kind of give them a tap or grip their shoulder or something to let them know that it was all in jest and they shouldn’t be taking whatever they said seriously.  this can also work across genders.

just hold it in – i know you really want to zing that girl, but haven’t you learned from those times when you really wish you just shut up?  when you realized you took it a step too far and really hurt someone by what you said?  play it out in your head.  if someone exposed one of your weaknesses, how hurt would you be?

but whenever possible, don’t be a jerk.  humor that hurts no one is definitely a lot better than humor that hurst someone even if you don’t get the laughs you wanted.  let’s play it safe people.

  3. I HAVE to say “just kidding” because people think that I’m serious. Whenever I make a joke about someone, I try to make sure that they laugh too. I ❤ dark humour.

  5. i agree!!!!!!
i dont like people who laugh AT people, not WITH them. and i’m sure a lot of times that person isn’t aware of the fact that what they laughed about may have been something that the person is sensitive about.

    yeah. bad.

    i like saying, “i keeeeed… i keeeeed….”

  6. i agree. Humor that is based off of cutting people down is for amateurs. Only pros do clean humor really well.

  7. I found this site called maybe you can use it. It seems to help get me through the issues of dealing with some of the jerks I know. At least I can vent about these jerks, plus I get a kick out of sending them some cards.
