ping pong conversations

with 3 comments

i’ve had some of the best conversations over games of ping pong.  me and some friends from school play pretty often and we end up having very deep theological and relational conversations.  although my ping pong game suffers a bit while talking, i find it to be a very open environment to share opinions and thoughts.  i think part of the reason why i have good conversations over ping pong is that my mind is preoccupied.  it’s like when you’re half-asleep and people ask you questions.  your brain doesn’t know anything else but to answer those questions no matter how tired you are.  and when you wake up, you don’t remember answering anything let alone who you were talking to.  maybe there’s some kind of psychological or philosophical phenomenon.  that your brain, even when the rest of your body is tired and fatigued, is compelled to give a correct and truthful answer.  maybe it’s that our default brain and thinking pattern is to tell the truth.  wow, that gets into a whole other discussion about free will and our choice to do bad things, or ‘sin’ if you will.

one of my favorite movies is called “ping-pong.”  it’s a japanese movie.  if you haven’t seen it, i highly recommend it.  not only does it highlight one of the hottest sports out there, basketball (just kidding), but there’s a really good story behind it.  it’s about friendship and talent/skill and the relationship between them.  plus i think the main character kind of looks like my praise team leader at church.  i get choked up when i watch it sometimes because i identify a lot with the main character.  i own a copy of the movie if anyone’s interested in borrowing it or anything.  the only thing is, it’s kind of long.  and can be a little slow at times.  so don’t get mad at me if you don’t like it.
