i wrote a song… in my mind

looks are deceiving… sometimes

sometimes what you perceive and what is real are two totally different things.  you wouldn’t believe how many people don’t think i’m a singer.  just because i’m grossly unattractive does not mean i cannot sing people!  i get this a lot:

whoa!!  you sound like that?  that sounds nothing like your speaking voice.

ummm… thank you?  i’m assuming that’s a compliment?  i’m thankul that you think nothing pleasant sounding can come out of my mouth.  and i’m even more thankful that my regular speaking voice isn’t anything special.  i’m just kidding of course.  i know that it’s meant to be given as a compliment and that’s usually how i take it.

however, sometimes appearances can tell you a lot about someone.  if you haven’t tried this, it’s pretty fun:

when you’re eating or hanging out with people that you kind of know, but not too well, try to guess what order they are in birth.  for example, frank over there seems to me to be an older brother.  he has 1 younger sister.  all based on personality.  it’s pretty fun and you’d be surprised how correct you are a lot of the time.  i did this once with friends at a church retreat and we got a lot of them correct.  i think the funnest part was yelling accross the cafeteria asking people if they had a younger brother or were a middle child.  here’s some hints that i find might help:

two kid families

older brothers – are pretty confident.  if they have a younger sister they have a slight sensitive side, but not much.  they are mindful of other people and are used to taking care of other people.  if they have a younger brother, they can have violent tendencies and are usually pretty sociable.

younger brothers – usually talk a lot.  a little insecure but are trying to be their own person under their older sibling’s wings moreso with an older brother.  with an older brother, the younger is usually more sociable than the older.  and years of abuse have made them compensate by being good at sports or other things.  with an older sister, they are usually more sensitive.

older sisters – very confident and independent.  are used to taking care of the younger sibling and so are very considerate towards other people.  with a younger brother they have a fighting side that makes them very strong in their personality.  with a younger sister they are usually less sociable than the younger.

younger sisters – i’m not really sure about this one.  with an older brother, they’re usually very quiet and mind their own business.  might be pretty protected by family as the little sister or little daughter.  with an older sister they are usually more talkative and are trying to make a name for themselves under their older sister’s wings.

another thing i’ve noticed is that the 2 or more family households, the younger or second child is usually the better looking one, except in my family where i am the younger child.  i think in most cases this is true.  and of course “better” is a very relative term.

now i could be completely wrong about these, but these are just my observations.  feel free to add your own.  i’ll add the three sibling family in the next post.  and i’m sorry for those with 4 or more, but i think you’d agree that the majority of families have 2 or 3 kids.  i don’t know enough 4 sibling families to analyze their personalities.

  2. i have an older brother and i am NOT quiet or mind my own business. hahahahaha.. i am more talkative and try to make a name for myself thanks to my brother’s shining records. i do have the “only child” tendencies, b/c my brother and i are so apart. i don’t know about being better looking, ‘cuz we both kinda look alike. so it can go either way. we’re both ugly or ok. btw, who says you’re grossly unattractive? i’ll go beat ’em up (or cuss them out while you’re not present) for you. oh yeah, you’re singing voice is a def. surprise, tho. maybe it’s b/c you talk really soft.

  4. Older brothers are pretty confident? Most people think that my sister is older — does that make me immature? Maybe I am immature since I find this to be funny.
