bad songs turned good

with 3 comments

you ever hear a song and instantly not like it?  it doesn’t make it onto your ipod, or whenever it plays, you instantly skip it.  then one day a friend tells you they loooove that song and somehow it gains some credibility.  or maybe you go to a concert and the performer plays said “bad” song.  doesn’t it make you want to listen to it again?

this has happened to me many times.

for example: jason mraz’s the boy is gone.  i didn’t hate this song, but i’d always skip it just because it started off slow and it just didn’t really capture my attention.  but then i went to a jason mraz concert and he opened with this song.  and instantly, i loved it.  i even performed it at a coffee shop.

example #2: jonas brothers’ burning up.  my sister told me to check out this song and i thought she’d gone crazy.  my first thought was, weren’t these guys on the disney channel?  i checked out the sample on itunes but wasn’t impressed.  it wasn’t until my roommate started blasting it in his car that i started to like it.

sometimes i’ll try to push a song that people may not like at first hoping to achieve this sort of effect for them.

  1. Haha, it doesn’t work when you do it huh? I would have never listened to Ray Lamontagne, but some girl I liked said she liked it so I started listening and liking it too.
