i wrote a song… in my mind

the wedding singer

with 8 comments

i think after this year, i’ll be done singing at weddings for a while.  i’m starting to feel like adam sandler in that movie he did about being a wedding singer.  i think it was called happy gilmore.

i think the past 3 or 4 weddings i’ve been to, i’ve sang in all of them.  and i’m not saying that to brag or to complain.  i’m just saying it’d be nice to not participate.  although i am very honored to be asked to sing at friends’ weddings and do like to be a part of friends’ special days, i almost feel like an outsider at the wedding.  i’m pretty separated from all my friends for most of the time.  i can understand how wedding planners feel.  like that movie with j.lo where she plays a wedding planner, i think it was called maid in manhattan.  i mean, after countless weddings that they don’t get to fully enjoy, i’m sure it’d be a refreshing change of pace for them to just sit down and enjoy a wedding and reception.

there’s so much pressure for wedding singers too.  i mean, this is someone’s special day.  i don’t want to mess up something that they planned and asked me to do.  so although i’m honored to sing at peoples’ weddings, i think i might have to take a break for a while after this year.  so don’t be offended if i politely refuse to sing at your wedding.  you can still ask me, i mean, it’ll definitely be case by case.  i’m not saying i won’t ever do it, but i’ll definitely have to say no to singing sometimes.

  1. Corrections to this entry:

Adam Sandler was not a wedding singer in “Happy Gilmore”. He played one in “The Wedding Singer”.

J.Lo was not a wedding planner in “Maid in Manhattan”. She played one in “The Wedding Planner”. (I watched both of these movies at the movie theater! 😆 )

  4. Didn’t Adam Sandler meet his future wife at a wedding in which he sang in the movie? Maybe it could happen to you. Hope this saves some unfortunate person from receiving a refusal from you…
