new and improved

you ever wonder about how they can possibly improve certain products?  for instance, toothbrushes.  how can they possibly remove more plaque than they do now?  you would think that if there was a more efficient way to remove plaque, they’d have created it by now.  i mean, flexible head, different varying length bristles, ergonomic grip… is there anything else they can possibly do to improve how you brush your teeth?

i mean, people have been brushing their teeth for centuries, millenia even, before we even picked up our first oral-b.  you would think that if they could survive on chewed up twigs, our teeth should be shining as bright as the sun with just a regular old toothbrush and some original colgate, not even the whitening kind!  but sadly, our teeth seem to be in no better condition than our pre-brush predecessors, which begs the question, “what are these toothbrush research and designers doing?!?!”  we should all have flawless teeth.  have they run out of ideas for new toothbrushes that actually clean our teeth better that they have to release one with a “new rubber grip”?

toothbrushes.  i know.  random right?  i guess it comes from the fact that i recently switched to an electric toothbrush.  one of the features of this toothbrush is that it has an automatic timer.  it’ll shut itself off after 2 minutes (the recommended time for most dentists).  now i don’t really spend too much time brushing my teeth.  much like soap, my goal is to lather the paste on each of my teeth and get the junk out of my mouth as quickly as possible.  thinking this new 2-minute timer will revolutionize the way i brush and will, in effect, give me whiter, healthier teeth, i was a little disappointed how after over a month’s use, my teeth seem to be no different in bedazzlement than my *ahem* 30 second brushings.

is this new toothbrush really an improvement over what i was using before?  and another thing… i’ve been using whitening toothpaste for quite a while now (pretty much since it came out) and i don’t see my teeth getting any whiter.  what’s going on here?!?!
